Introduction by Carlo D'Este
The 4th Edition July 10, 1943, the Anglo-Americans landed on the shores of Sicily. It is the first step towards the conquest of "Fortress Europe" and the beginning of the final collapse of Nazi and fascist dictatorships. In the summer of '43, the world's eyes are focused on Sicily, where the war comes with all the tragedies and the tragic consequences. The plan of invasion, determined by Roosevelt and Churchill in Casablanca in January of that year, was given the code name Operation Husky. The book tells, in simple language and easy to approach, the events of that period and analyzes the most important facts, such as the bloody battles of Gela, Primosole, Sferro, act and Troina, the conquest of Catania and Palermo, the advance towards Messina and his fall, the Armistice of September 3, the inauguration of the allied government. The rich photographic documentation accompanying the book, consisting of more than 170 images of the period found in archives around the world, makes this not only original but also valuable.
